Practical and confident. A self-made man from a humble background.

Etienne Bertrand (born 1953) is a playable character available from episode 1.

Biography[]

Etienne is the sales director at Wake Publishing and he hired Daniel as his personal assistant a few months ago after his acquaintance Sophie set up an interview between them.

Born to a single mother in a humble neighborhood, Etienne had to start working at an early age, stumbling from job to job until he found his calling in sales. There, he netted his company the biggest client it's ever had: the famed writer Sebastian P. Husher, with whom he has established a certain rapport.

Despite Etienne often using Daniel as a glorified errand boy, the pair have developed a mutual respect and a steadfast relationship that also extends to their personal lives.

Background[]

Etienne, a confident, self-made man, is Sales Manager at Wake Publishing. making him Daniel's direct supervisor. In his role as a personal assistant, Daniel has become somewhat of an errand boy, but Etienne is slowly giving him greater responsibilities.

Although they love to complain about working together, they have grown fond of each other, developing a friendship outside of work that neither of them likes to admit.

Story[]

Episode 1: The Husher Mansion[]

After Sophie informs Etienne that she hasn't heard from Daniel since he went to the Husher's house, Etienne goes to find him if played. Etienne will show up at the hospital no matter if you found Daniel as him or not unless he is dead.

Episode 2: Eerily Quiet[]

Etienne meets Daniel in the hospital after finding out that he has been found/ finding him. Etienne will help Daniel search for the music box if he was the one who found him. Etienne will help Daniel return the music box to Ariadne LeGrant-Amsberg if he found Isaac with the music box.

Episode 3: A Twisted Trail[]

Etienne does not make an appearance in this episode for reasons unknown. It is entirely possible the reasoning is family/work related, or he could be attending Isaac Färber's funeral.

Episode 4: The Last Concert[]

Etienne returns to help Daniel find Husher in St Cecelia's Abbey since Daniel and him are friends. No matter what Etienne will let Daniel go through the door with the four locks after his insistence.

Episode 5: The Horror and The Song[]

As long as he is alive, Etienne will figure out how to break the curse of the song and leave the rest to Daniel.

Personality[]

Etienne is a relatively excitable person and he is very happy when he gets something (for example, solving a puzzle). He's a person who values his time very much and hates to lose it. He is very good at taking charge of any situation. His analysis tends to be particularly focused on what could be profitable, something that probably derives from his position as a salesman.

After Daniel is rescued, and once they realize the gravity of the situation, Etienne cannot help but feel extremely guilty and responsible for putting Daniel's life in jeopardy and tries to help him no matter what in the following episodes, in hope to ease his own consciousness.

Trivia[]

  • He has a wife named Amanda and his son is Albert.
  • Etienne worked in a garage before, and recognize some of the tools he find while investigating.
  • If Etienne completed Episode 5, there is a possibility that he would die whilst escaping the asylum or after the events. This is evident when he played the music box's song on the piano. Hearing the song in any shape or form will curse the listener, as it was previously played in the form of an orchestra in St. Cecelia's Abbey. To conclude, it is very likely that she met hisdemise afterwards.
